- Phonetic name search
- Searches for names which sound similar to the name entered. For example, searching for the name "Burn" might return "Bernie", "Byrne" and "Byron". The algorithm used is biased towards English language names and will perform less well on names in other languages.
Note that the algorithm requires that the first letter of the name be correct, so a search for "Fish" will not return "Phish".
- Text only search
- The textual search returns a list of all surnames which start with the characters entered. So searching for "smi" will return both "Smith" and "Smithers", but not "Smythe".
