 Wollongong, Friday.
 The town was startled by the sound of the fireball at about 9 o'clock last night. It was found that a fire had broken out in the bedroom of a house occupied by Arthur Huxham, a railway employee, who was on duty at the time, only his wife being at home. The fire was discovered by Mr. Bate, who lives next door, and he immediately caused the alarm to be given. The fire engine was on the scene in a very short space of time, and succeeded in subduing the flames shortly after. The fire again broke out subsequently, but the brigade still being on hand it again overcame it.

About 1846 he sold his Jamberoo property and moved to Shoalhaven establishing an inn and, later, a store and hotel at Greenhills. On retirement he moved into a private dwelling in Berry St, Nowra. He was said to be a man with a strong sense of justice and generous instincts. His son David was an Alderman on the Shoalhaven Council for 47 years and several times Mayor.
